Hokey but fun

Went to Silver Dollar City this weekend. It's in Branson, MO, not exactly one of my favorite towns, but the day was very fun. (I'm amazed that I can say that since going meant I got up at 4:30 am.) It was very long, but fun. I can't believe I made it all day without a nap, although I'm not much of a napper. I also made it through the day (and night) without a drink. And believe me, after a day of wading through people with no clue about what they wanted to do next, teenagers and kids, I needed one. I was a bit disappointed by the International Food area....nothing too exciting about pizza from Italy that's the same pre-fabbed stuff the gas station down the road sells. The German area had rubens, but once you've gotten one from Molly's or Oaklawn in Hot Springs, there's just no eating some random ruben and feeling good about it.
Got to ride horses the next day. That was quite a bit of fun, but I'm still not used to riding in an arena. This was big for an arena, but it still seemed small. I prefer to just head out whichever direction the horse and I want to go. Rode a horse named "Toad"...he's a big boy. Not just tall, but WIDE. Wider may indeed be better in some respects, but my inner thighs aren't thrilled that I decided to 'lope' with him quite a bit. If I were a better horsewoman, I'd have killer thighs...literally.

Oh well, House is almost on and I need another glass of wine (yes, I'm making up for a "dry" weekend.)

Yes, I know

I haven't updated in forever. I've been rather busy. And while I thought I would think and ponder and create a really good blog entry now, I see that there is a scheduled outage in 26 minutes. And you, Dear Reader, deserve more thought than that. So I write this and promise more. I believe Laura Ingalls Wilder would have called this "a lick and a promise". Which she probably didn't mean to sound all that great, but I wouldn't argue with it right about now....

Italy and immigration

Spent a good bit of the day surfing for Italy stuff. Found some interesting train fares, tried to find out about Trento (the only 100K population city with 3 hotels), found a wine festival that I'll know more about after I learn more Italian (tried babel to translate and it did until a new window opened up). Was interesting to read.
Watching "Real Time with Bill Maher". Some Hispanic news guy is advocating that we legalize all the current illegals and open the gates wider for more immigration. Uh, no. Stay home and work if you're that gung-ho to do menial work. It bothers me that my position puts me squarely with some of the right-wing nutjobs. Glad he's off...Erica Jong is on now. I just love her.

I have no idea why this didn't publish last night....guess I'm more attracted to the blue "Save as Draft" button than the orange "Publish Post" button....
