A dog's life

Yesterday, I took E to the groomer on the way to work. My dog loves to get a bath, she loves to be in the car and she loves everyone. For her to go to the groomer is like me having a day at a spa. Pick her up after work and I have a clean happy dog. While the Boy and I go on vacation, she's going to my in-law's. The original plan was that Father-In-Law would meet the Boy halfway. Somehow this morning, it turned into FIL flying across the state to get the dog (he has a small plane). It was a goregous day, so I can't say as I blame him. It was just a little funny to think about. Dog spends a day at the spa, a cushy night at home as the center of attention all night with us, naps all morning and has a charter flight off to HER vacay spot.
Even though she's a good traveler, flying is different from driving. Turns out I had nothing to worry about. She made it just fine.
So I'm close to being done with all the trip plans.....which is good since we leave in under 48 hours.

almost here

The trip is almost here....I'm sure I was worthless at work today, although I did get a few things done that I don't normally do and I did a few things early that I usually have to be pushed to do. I don't think that's bad. Had lunch with my girls today. One has a brand new baby....he's very cute in an old man sort of way. He mostly slept through lunch. If kids would just sleep and not poop and yak on you, I might could deal with one. It was great to see both my friends. Even though we've all taken different paths through life and the Big Faceless Corp, we still have a lot in common and lunch is always great. Next time, we'll have dinner and drinks...at the request of Mom who hasn't been able to kick her heels up much these days. I've been warned to narrow the pictures from the trip down....I CAN take over 1000, but we won't have time for that many.

So now I'm working from lists of lists. Some on the PC, some scribbled down. This is the 4th time I've been across the pond and I think this time I've worried the most. Not about terrorists or crashing (although that's certainly worry-worth), but about "do I need to buy a train ticket?" "will our hotel reservations go OK?" "will we get from A to B in time?" Sigh....I really can't wait!!!

NFL first weekend

I do love football. I've watched it for almost 8 hours and saw a few surprises. Didn't actually expect Jax to beat Dallas, although I'm certainly glad they did. Manning v Manning has been pretty interesting. Really didn't expect Tampa to get shut out....that was odd. Didn't expect Atlanta to win or the Seattle game to be close.

Tomorrow night there are 2 games. Two games on Monday night. One of them is the Redskins, so I'll have to be home early to catch that one. No idea what we'll have for dinner. Getting ready for the trip and that's been fun. Mom and Dad bought us some Euros, which was pretty nice.

I doubt I'll be worth much this week at work. I'm only there for 3 days, so it shouldn't be much of a waste.

9/10 am

I could tell you what's wrong with your biscuits
But my ideas are greeted with disdain
I could tell you what's wrong with your biscuits
But what could I possibly know
I could tell you what's wrong with your biscuits
The ones you so esteem yourself for
I could tell you what's wrong with your biscuits
But I won't.

Labor Day musings

Made pesto today....yum, yum. The basil's not as green as I'd like (I overwater while I'm checking for blooms or checking the tomatoes for tobacco worms) and I didn't really have enough flat-leaf parsley to help green it up. No worries, however, it tasted GREAT. Heated up a little leftover orzo and feta, stirred some pesto in.....oh. my. That's why I bother to dink with the basil. I need to make a super-batch (or two, or three) to use it all up by the time we leave for the trip. I'm sure Mom will be glad to have some (and help make it) while she's here next weekend and I think I can find a friend or two to find a good home for some.

Making pesto and seeing the next-to-last Arkansas Travelers game at Ray Winder Field (oldest minor league part West of the Mississippi River) were the highlights of an otherwise slow and easy weekend. Which is what weekends are for. Especially weekends ahead of a busy week. Big project at Big Faceless Corp to turn in next week. One that the Boss will be happy to have, which makes me feel useful. Two wine tastings to work, pre-trip things to buy and Mom and Dad in on Friday for the weekend. Next week will be abbreviated as well, but I'll be so out of my mind excited about the trip that I won't have the foggiest idea what's going on. I've warned co-workers and friends alike. I fully anticipate getting hit in the butt with a tranquilizer dart.

Been musing a bit more about friends this weekend. It's always good when you luck into one. There's a chick I work with, who I've always thought was tons of fun, whose recent divorce has allowed her go and DO things. She and kiddo went to the Travs game and we had a really nice time. Didn't even talk about work THAT much. I'm sad for her that her relationship didn't work out like she'd hoped, but glad to have her back. Another friend, my typical partner in almost any crime we're bored enough to think up, is out of the country on a weekend when we'd normally go run around. I'm glad he got a most-expenses-paid trip back to the homeland, but it's odd not to be able to call to say "hey, turn to this channel...you'll never believe this" or "New Movie starts at 7:30....I'll be there to pick you up in 15 min".

For a few years, the SuperBowl loser (and in a couple of cases, winner) from one year was horrendous the next year (Bucs and Raiders immediately come to mind). I think the Steelers will be good this year, but geez....Ben has had an awful off-season. Motorcycle wreck, hurt his thumb, appendectomy.... I think Pit's not safe for Ben. Ben, I have a lovely guest room that I'm completely willing to re-do in gold and black if it's too girly for you. You'll have a relaxing environment, fresh country air, hiking trails, good home cooking, lots of "extra TLC"...all that you need to recouperate. I've never been much of a quarterback kind of gal. Mostly because my teams will have a REALLY good QB for 2 years, then either a green guy who never learns the playbook or some worn out washed up player who needs the money much worse than we need him. Anyway, there's something compelling about Big Ben. And I don't just mean his stature. I was about to type "he's a really cute kid" when I looked up his age. He was born in 1982. I was eleven. I was just getting into boys when he graced the planet. Yeah....I don't feel old, or anything.
