Joy of the Internet

I've heard several comedians say that if you're into something, you can always find someone else who is into it on the Internet. I've never doubted that, but being adult with braces has proven the truism yet again. I've found a neat site for advice, info, etc for adults with braces and a good site for supplies owned by someone who has "been there".
On a message board, I found the story of someone who has a very similar situation to mine. She too has TMJD, has braces for it and has a rickinator. So I know there's hope for a happy ending.

I'll need to keep more hydrated than I normally do. Not a problem on a "normal weekday", but it's the weekend, when I rarely get a liter down daily. I'll also have some challenges next week at a conference. I suppose I'm getting the hard part done first. I've found some interesting bracket covers that I think I'll order to have waiting for me when I get home. Then I'll "only" need wax for my 2 inside brackets and the wires on my rickinator.

Clever Carrie

When I was in college, one of the girls who lived across from me was an Accounting major. Carrie was a very bright girl, but wasn't a big fan of Tax Accounting. One day, she had a note on her msg board that said "An AX! An ax to Tax!" We knew what she was talking about. I've been thinking about that message since Tuesday and how well it conveyed her frustration in a funny and clever way. Unfortunately, I haven't come up with anything that clever which would rhyme with "spacer". Yes, they're back. Gone tomorrow when I get the braces on, but I doubt I'll be feeling tons better. Come to think of it, there's not much I could use to "borrow" her quote, should I need it to express my thoughts on the braces.

Sorry folks

LA is just not a football town. I remember when the Rams played there; I remember when the Raiders played there. I think our local arena team gets a higher gate count than those teams did and it doesn't have 12 million people to draw from. I'm glad Mr. Roski is looking to build without taxpayer money.

Once and again

When I was in college, I lived in the oldest women's dorm on campus. One of the advantages of this was that we had huge boilers and hot water was never in short supply. I was quite happy with that. Others on my floor were not so happy with my preference. During a floor meeting, my across the hall neighbor aired her grievance about (as she looked straight at me) "people having to BOIL themselves awake every morning".

Yes, Margo, that was me. And wherever you are.....nigh on 20 years later, it's still an am requirement.

New York City

Yep, going tomorrow. Spamalot and Central Park and the Rainbow Room. I've found the closest coffee shops to the hotel (Starbucks and local spots), come up with 3 times more to do than we have time for and have a decent plan of what to wear. Yes, I'll be paralyzed by what to pick. Also happens to me every single morning, so nothing new there.

I wanna be a part of it.....and soon I will be!

B day April 25

Since my DDS shocked me with the news that I need braces, I've been ready to get them. Every time I've had an appointment, I've been quite convinced that my next appointment would be "the one", the 2 hours + appointment to get braces on. But none of them have. There's always something to happen "next". I'm tired of the "next"; the quicker these get on, the quicker they come off.

So I've had spacers, which were painful enough to impact my vision and drain all my energy. I had yet another impression taken today, from which my "rickinator" will be made. This oddly named device will broaden my smile. A good friend is quite glad I'm getting that done. Seems that broader smiles, aka "the Hollywood smile" are in style now. Goodness knows I need all the help I can in the style department. If the broad "Hollywood smile" ever goes OUT, I'm afraid I'll have to be unstylish again. Once this is over, I really don't want to do ANY more work with my teeth/jaws/mouth.

So after today's appointment, where my spacers were removed, we made THE appointment. I won't have braces in NYC or in Cincy, but I will have them in Vegas. I can live with that.

OK, I know

I haven't posted in a few days. I'm sure all 2.5 of you that have this on your RSS are just dying to know why. I could stretch the truth a little and say "Well, I had such a rip-roaring time in Memphis this weekend that I can hardly stand being back". It was fun, and while I am feeling the after effects, I'm afraid it's lack of REM sleep from hanging out with a snorer and not from any overindulging on Beale St.

I also got spacers put in today to prepare me for braces. I have no idea why that would knock me out, but it has. And I'm rather sleepy. And cold. I'm wrapped up in a throw like I'm 90.

Later.
